Counselor Intern

Hi, I'm Gaby; I am a cisgender Latina woman of Puerto Rican descent. I believe in the power of human connection and strive to create a warm, supportive environment where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions. I take a trauma-informed approach to counseling, integrating cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with psychodynamic and gestalt theories. I also embrace humor as an essential part of the therapeutic journey—laughter can be a powerful tool in healing.

As a dedicated PsyD student at George Fox University and a practicum intern at Sankofa Counseling, I am passionate about fostering mental health and well-being. So far in my journey, I have my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, and have worked with clients dealing with OCD and anxiety, employing Exposure Response Prevention techniques to help them navigate their challenges. I take a trauma-informed approach to counseling, integrating cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with psychodynamic and gestalt theories. My practice is deeply rooted in cultural sensitivity, reflecting my identity as a cisgender Latina woman of Puerto Rican descent. Having grown up in the South and lived on the West Coast for nearly a decade, I value the rich diversity of experiences and perspectives that inform my work. I believe in the power of human connection and strive to create a warm, supportive environment where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions. I also embrace humor as an essential part of the therapeutic journey—laughter can be a powerful tool in healing. Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients to find their path to wellness and personal growth. I am here to listen, support, and help you navigate your journey toward a more fulfilling life. Our environment and cultural context significantly influences our experience. In therapy, I aim to offer a safe environment to explore aspects of yourself and patterns of behavior that may or may not be serving you. Together, we will address and dismantle both internal and external barriers to healing. My approach blends mindfulness, somatic practices, ecotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. At this time, I am solely working with youth and young adults, ages 10 - 25.

I am committed to meeting you where you are, listening empathetically and validating your experiences. The counseling process is collaborative and will allow us to set goals that can bring you towards becoming your most authentic and healthy self. Whether navigating anxiety, depression, stress, identity development, grief / loss, or relationship issues, my intention is to empower and support you as you pursue your desired goals.
